I'm from the Philippines, there are plenty of reasons why there's such a big following on Dota 2. First, the bloom of internet cafe business has allowed lots of people of varying ages to be able to play video games together with their group of friends. Dota's learning curve and gameplay is enough for people to have fun while still leaving room for more improvement and competitiveness, and this how a groups of friends simply playing for fun together ends up playing competitively against other groups. DOTA (Defense of The Ancients) is the most popular computer game in my country (Indonesia). I've been playing DOTA since 2005 (v.5.84). The release of DOTA 2 simply makes me very interested to try and master it.
