History of the Mid Wars Concept
Mid wars was a concept that was first seen in the Dota genre with Warcraft 3 DotA's "-om" (Only Mid) command. The mode disabled lane creeps from spawning from both bottom and top lanes which focused all pushes into one lane - the middle.
In 2009, beta testers for Heroes of Newerth were able to play a prototype of Mid Wars with a command that enabled people to play a test map with only one lane. The map was eventually removed by S2 Games a few months before the game was released.
HoN Mid Wars
Seeing the potential and demand for a middle lane only mode, S2 Games decided to launch an official HoN mid wars map by editing the Forests of Caldavar map and adding things to encourage high intensity and low stress gameplay.
HoN Mid Wars Launch Date: May 11, 2012

Most HoN players are old dota players waiting for Dota2! Just you wait once we get Dota2, S2 will lose most (I won't say all) its players.
